Dear Fellow Horse Owner,
In April 1999 my horse, Dakota, sustained a severe injury after taking down a fence. He pulled the ligaments from his fetlock. My vet informed me Dakota would mostly likely be prone to lameness for the rest of his life; he would probably only be pasture sound and needed 6 months or more to recuperate. He made no promises. This was discouraging to say the least.
Only 5 years prior I had to put Dakota’s brother down for founder. The thought of losing another one was over-whelming. But we followed conventional treatment and took Dakota for follow up X- rays to monitor his condition. In July he was a little better but was still lame, had pain and displayed bone chips in the X-Rays. In August I met our local horse dealer and shared my dilemma with her. She recommended magnets so I decided to use them. I had nothing to lose! The magnets were on Dakota about 5 weeks when he went for his follow up in early Sept. Low and behold, the X-Rays were clear and he trotted sound! Dakota wore the magnets for an entire year, 2-3 days a week. In the first 5 months Dakota developed a large amount of scar tissue around the injury. It was quite noticeable, but I never paid attention to it until the following spring. The large lump in his fetlock was gone! Today a run down with your hand indicates where he had the injury but to the untrained eye it isn’t even noticeable. My only regret is that I waited so long to put the magnets on him. Due to his condition and the fact 4 months had lapsed before I did anything, Dakota lost partial rotation in his left hoof. I truly believe if I had applied the magnets immediately after the accident in April, he would have 100% rotation in his left hoof. Dakota looks great and is doing well. One would never know he had an injury the way he runs around his corral and makes sharp turns and fast stops. It has been 8 years since his injury and he had one tiny piece of calcification and I am addressing that issue. Yes…I am using my magnets to help with that as well. I hope you will give us a call so that we can explore how to achieve the best results for you and your horse.
